INDIVIDUAL RETIREMENT ACCOUNTS

We care about your financial future and are dedicated to helping you reach your financial goals through an Individual Retirement Account (IRA). An IRA is a personal, tax deferred or tax free investment plan designed to help you save for retirement.

LZECU offers members three choices of IRAs to fit your needs and lifestyle:

A traditional IRA is a type of retirement plan that has been in existence since 1975. Traditional IRAs offer tax-deferred earnings and the possibility for tax-deductible contributions. Earnings in this IRA are not taxed until they are withdrawn. The ability to defer taxes on the earnings, and to withdraw in a year when you may be in a lower tax bracket, can mean more after-tax dollars for your retirement.
A Roth IRA is an individual retirement account created by the Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997. This IRA offers more incentives to boost your retirement savings, as well as more ways to use your nest egg. Unlike traditional IRAs your contributions to a Roth IRA are never tax-deductible. However, the money in your Roth IRA, including earnings, can be withdrawn tax-free. You must conform to the plan provisions to get this tax free advantage.
The Educational IRA, recently renamed the Coverdell Education Savings Account, is a type of tax-advantage savings account created by the Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997. This IRA's sole purpose is to help you pay for your child's education expenses such as: tuition, fees, books, supplies, equipment, and, in some cases, room and board and computers. These options were improved by the Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2001. Although contributions to an Education IRA are not tax-deductible, your withdrawals, including earnings, are tax-free if used for tuition, books, and other qualified higher-education expenses.

It is important to contribute the maximum amount allowed to your IRA every year. The more you contribute and the earlier you contribute, the harder your money will work for you, growing over time. Remember, you're never too young - - or too old - - to begin thinking about your retirement income.
